I have to put my tomato plants in the garden this week which means the annual argument over how the word is pronounced…towMAYtow or towMAHtow.  Brits are funny about correcting your pronunciation and always fall back on, “it IS our language, then, isn’t it?”  Usually, this is fair enough and you suffer through the additional ‘i’ in aluminium (NOT aluminum) or speciality (NOT specialty). Tomato, however, is a new world word for a new world fruit.  I’ll be in touch with my progress as a propagator, vegetator, and irrigator (youtube of the original flick–only ten minutes, you’ve got time–linked to the ‘mater, below) :
