JPChenet Merlot Rose Old Harbour Fish and Chips Weymouth

“What we gain in hake,”
So the English proverb goes,
“We lose in herring.”

Name: J. P. Chenet Merlot rose
Type: rose
Venue: The Old Harbour Fish and Chips, Weymouth, Dorset

Review/notes: I bought a book on the history of cod at a thrift store (charity shop) and have started into it with some gusto(see http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/review-of-cod-a-biography-of-the-fish-that-changed-the-world-152948483/ for a review).  I paraphrased the haiku from one of the later chapters.

Had I started the dense tome on arrival at the Old Harbour, I would have finished it before our order was taken.  Ignored for one complete turnover of the room despite having taken our filthy table directly in front of the three wait staff serving a whopping 12 tables, we eventually got our orders in and in the course of time our bottle of plonk arrived.  We drank a lot of this shit in Amsterdam at ¼ the price, but it was good to get the attention.  More in the chippy review.

  2. Loved that book! Same author wrote “Salt – A World History” and it’s awesome, too.

    • Thanks for the tip, Mik. I’m putting together a few suggestions for anyone making a trip to London in the near future, so check back before you travel. There might be some of interest to you.
