The Red Lion, Axford, Wiltshire   1 comment

The run out to Axford from Marlborough was cool but not cold and relatively flat — I ran Chopping Knife Road above the River Kennet but below the steep ridge that kept the tailwind off me.  It was damp, but the road out was all paved so a good choice overall.  Eventually, I found the village and then the Red Lion (another very good choice).

The vibrant but frankly rickety old couple running the place couldn’t have been nicer and the crowds out for a Saturday lunch were very tolerant of the sweaty and inappropriately attired foreigner (as was the absolutely bomb-proof kitty I took up residence next to):

The food looked marvelous, as well, and the house interior was a warm welcoming surprise.  I really must book a lunch here this winter.
