The Queen Victoria, Stroud, Gloucestershire   3 comments

A couple of loops through town confirmed that you can’t get a kebab in Stroud during the day. But, if you want some pleasant places to sit and have a beverage you will be spoiled for choice.

One such is the Queen Victoria down Gloucester Street (across from one of the many closed kebab stands I encountered). A bit of psychedelic rock flowed out of the speakers and reflected off the polished but well-worn hardwood floors and the place was ambiently lit by tall west- and south-facing windows out of which I could see yet more of the Half Marathon stragglers wandering about with their finishers’ medals.

I took my own finisher’s abomination out of the back pack and considered carrying it to the River Slad and heaving it in, Muhammed Ali-style. Then, I got a grip and just left it in the empty glass.
