Poseidon, Oxford (kpw* for Week 31)   2 comments

[*kpw = kebab per week for 2013, as noted in an earlier post and the 35th entry for the 2013 Challenge]

Poseiden Oxford kebab

It was warm, sunny, and humid and I was due a weekly kebab so I made a loop through Mesopotamia and up the hills around South Park to arrive on Cowley Road but my first choice, which had hours posted on the internet as opening at 11 am had hours post on the door as opening at 6pm.  Second choice, Istanbul, is ‘reopening soon’ according to the dusty, cobwebbed boards obscuring the windows.  Continuing down the street I spotted Poseidon Traditional Fish and Chips and Kebab and Burger and Mash & Pie and Fish & Chips…result!

The kebab was a bit *meh* but the floor show was fantastic.  Five middle-aged Turkish guys were hanging around with a sixth, much older one watching pop videos on a very loud telly.  Speaking of telly, the one that served me looked a bit like a Telly Savalas/Omid Djalili hybrid; he yelled out what might have been a name (or, as easily, an obscenity) and another yelled back, “what do you want all of the time,” with very expressive hand gestures.  “Bring me some tomatoes and cucumbers.  Do you think you can do that?”  “Maybe.”  “I will give you the slap, you know that.”  This went on for about a minute, then they both laughed and the second went back to his conversation leaving Telly no richer for salad.

The chilli sauce was more of a coarse salsa and quite spicy and fresh.  The meat was salty but not too greasy.  Go see these boys, they are located about the point that I turned off Cowley Road just before the 3 mile marker:

4.8 miles for a kebab
