The Old Spring, Cambridge

old spring entrance

Looking for refuge from the downpour I spotted the Old Spring down a side street off Chesterton Road and, although soaked and well underdressed, was greeted at the bar by the owners and welcomed with a pint of Reverend James (a bit of a pricey pint, though).

The front half of the place was packed with happy folks in business attire and one guy (not me) that was absolutely slammed and who staggered out the door for a smoke as I took a seat in the much less populated back room.

The Old Spring is upscale from what I prefer and am used to finding, but I like the decor, the mock rustic furnishings (surprise, NOT Ikea), and the general atmosphere which isn’t stuffy in spite of the potential for snootiness.  The menu is full of nice dishes that are priced to keep out riff raff like me (and YOU) but it seems a good place to bring some friends (just  maybe not to make some new acquaintances).
