The Mill, Mill Lane, Cambridge

This was fun, if macabre.  From an administrative office of the Uni, I went down Mill Lane for a plate of chips and a pint.  On a normal day, you can go out to the green on Mill Pond’s sluice at the River Cam and watch stuff like this:

punters

But, there was a police line set up and no one else showed up anyway except some reporters. Before I could ask them what was going on, they rushed out to see the new police arrivals from the scientific support team. What the fuck?

Ate the chips which were thick and remarkably hot and tasty with a bit of curry sauce on them. A Woodforde’s Wherry washed the taters down and refreshed me for the walk back. The coppers had set up rudimentary barricades all over the place.

Later, on the way home, the radio news announced that…

[We interrupt this report to note that per smarmy request, the link to the news story of drunken St Patrick's Day reveller--the sort that push the NHS to the budgetary breaking point and someone who should have known better--killing himself by accident (at least the death is not being treated as suspicious) has been editted out.

That he was very talented and that his bountiful gifts had been an important part of the larger scientific and research effort only casts a glaring spotlight on the tragic waste much more than my thoughtless comments ever could.

I apologise if any children lost sleep over this post in its earlier form.

Life goes on.  Thoughts on the NHS crisis should be sought elsewhere, but the truly lazy can go to this post.]
